At the Dolaucothi Gold Mines in Carmarthenshire you can try your luck at gold panning and hunt for Easter eggs – and you get to keep anything you find!
For self-catering visitors to Wales Holidays cottages and farmhouses in April this is just one of a number of interesting events taking place throughout the country.
Of course the first weekend of the month is Easter and there are egg-hunting events on in a number of castle, gardens and stately homes including Powis Castle near Welshpool, Erddig near Wrexham, Aberconwy House and Bodnant Garden near Conwy, Penrhyn Castle at Bangor and Plas Newydd on Anglesey.
Further south, Llanerchaeron Mansion at Aberaeron, Cilgerran Castle near Cardigan, the Tudor Merchant’s House in Tenby and Dinefwr Castle near Llandeilo will also be staging egg-hunting events.
The National Botanic Garden near Carmarthen has various Easter events on over the weekend and later in the month you can enjoy the sights and scents of the Mediterranean at the Garden’s Mediterranean Weekend on 24 & 25 April.
A Dam Open Day in the Elan Valley on 6 April gives you the chance to go into Pen y Garreg Dam.
A complete change of scene can be enjoyed at the Porthcawl International Jazz Festival from 15 to 18 April, where the main event is clarinettist Acker Bilk.
And for something completely different, the Machynlleth Comedy Festival with headliner Jon Richardson, runs from 23 to 25 April.
