The June Bank Holiday Week will see all the heritage steam railways in Wales running an extensive range of trains for visitors. Click on any of the following areas for more details of trains on these Heritage Railways and information on nearby cottages.
Thomas the Tank Engine and friends will be visiting the Llangollen Railway on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 2 to 4 June for a fun day out for all the family! A daily ticket on Thomas days includes brake van rides with Thomas and Clarabel at Llangollen station and unlimited travel on Daisy or Goliath with services running throughout the day. Trains Galore’ will operate on the Rhyl Miniature Railway over the June Bank Holiday Weekend from Saturday 2nd to Tuesday 5th from 10.00.
From Saturday to Tuesday over the June Day Bank Holiday (2 to 5 June), the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway will be running five trains daily leaving Llanfair Caereinion for Welshpool. And the former quarry engines will be hauling four daily trains on the Bala Lake Railway from Saturday 2nd to Sunday 10th June steaming out of Llanuwchllyn for Bala. Just to the north of Machynlleth, steam trains will be running every hour on the Corris Railway from 11.00 to 16.00 during the June Bank Holiday week - from Saturday 2nd right through to Sunday 10th.
In North Wales, the Ffestiniog Railway will be operating an extensive service of steam trains during the June Bank Holiday Week with from four to seven trains each day from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog while the Welsh Highland Railway will run three steam trains daily to/from Carmarthen. The little trains will be running on the Llanberis Lake Railway throughout June with no less than ten departures from their station at Gilfach Ddu from Sunday 3rd to Thursday 7th.
For the Dolgellau and the North Cambrian coast area, there will be seven daily steam trains on the Talyllyn Railway from Sunday 3rd to Friday 8th June; Thursday 7th is a special Duncan Day for the children - Duncan is the narrow gauge engine friend of Thomas the Tank Engine! The Fairbourne Railway will be running steam and diesel hauled services all week. The Vale of Rheidol Railway will have two steam trains running every day in June leaving Aberystwyth for Devil’s Bridge; two extra trains run Monday 4th to Thursday 7th June.
In the Carmarthen area, the Gwili Railway near Carmarthen will have five daily steam trains departing from Bronwydd Arms from Monday 3rd to Friday 8th June and also on Sunday 10th. The Railway offers a unique Dining Experience on Saturday 9 June with an evening of music. Trains will be leaving Henllan on the Teifi Valley Railway in the Cardigan area four times daily from Sunday 3rd to Thursday 7th.
For Abergavenny visitors, a Family Fun Weekend will be held on the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway over the June Bank Holiday Weekend. In the Brecon Beacons, trains will be departing from Pant Station on the Brecon Mountain Railway every day in June from the 2nd onwards.
